The Humane Society of the Black Hills (HSBH) has welcomed thousands of local animals through its doors in 2021, and it is because of dedicated staff, donors, volunteers, fosters, and many other loyal supporters that the HSBH will continue helping these thousands of local animals each year. Your support makes it possible for us to care for animals like Bella. Many have been following Bella’s story throughout the year, and we’re delighted to give one final update – one with a very happy ending.

Bella (a.k.a. “Shags”) arrived from another local shelter in April 2021 after wandering the streets there for some time. Bella suffered gunshot wounds, a face full of porcupine quills, a broken jaw, and infection – all while hungry and pregnant to boot. Once in our care, Bella underwent many procedures with veterinarians to begin quill and shrapnel removal. To keep her comfortable, Bella was placed in foster care, and just a couple of short weeks later, Bella gave birth to a healthy puppy.

Bella’s puppy grew into a big, happy boy and found a home of his own. Finally, after months of love and healing, Bella found the forever family she so deserved on September 27th.

With the help of fosters, donors, and other supporters, local animals like Bella will continue to have happy endings. Please remember the Humane Society of the Black Hills in your end-of-year gifts.
